Learning can be fun

Date: 03/09/2008           Category: Adult Learning

What do brick-laying, sign language and Indian cooking all have in common? They are just a small selection of the course available through Medway Adult Learning Service (MALS). From beauty to business studies, floristry to French, MALS has something to offer everyone, whatever the level of learning required and length of course desired. Margaret Arnold from Chatham has two computing courses with MALS – ECDL and CLAiT plus a teaching assistant course. She said: “All three courses have helped my career. I’m a teaching assistant and I’ve always been interested in IT and these courses have helped me with the interactive white boards at school and to help the children with their homework. “I found the courses online and would definitely consider doing another course. It’s a great way to gain more skills outside of your day-to-day job. There are definitely benefits to be had from adult learning.” The new term starts on 22 September and the 2008/09 course directory is available to pick up at locations across Medway including adult learning centres, libraries, leisure centres, the council’s contact points and health centres. Alternatively it can be downloaded from the council’s website: http://www.medway.gov.uk/index/learning/adults-2/adultlearning/coursedirectory.htm The majority of courses are held at the Gillingham Adult Education Centre in Green Street and at Rochester Adult Education Centre in High Street; there are an additional three school-based evening centres.
