Young folk band are streets ahead

Date: 22/08/2008           Category: Arts and Libraries

A group of seven Maidstone based teenagers are bringing their unique sound to The Brook Theatre stage in Chatham next month. Collectively known as Wheeler Street, this young band specialises in close harmonies, augmenting rock classics with the sounds of mandolin, melodeon, concertina, fiddle and bouzouki. In less than a year their journey has taken them from Faversham Market Square to Cambridge Folk Festival, and a memorable performance at this year’s Rochester Sweep’s Festival. BBC Radio 2’s Mike Harding has described them as “incredibly talented, raw and immediate”. Wheeler Street perform at The Brook Theatre on Thursday, 25 September at 8pm. Tickets cost £10, folk mailing list members £9, and are available from the box office on 01634 338338, or online at www.medway.gov.uk/theatrebooking ENDS Editors: for further information please contact Lisa Caleno on 01634 338308 or email lisa.caleno@medway.gov.uk
