New toilet ensures walkers are not caught short

Date: 28/08/2008           Category: Greenspaces

A portable toilet is bringing relief to walkers out for an evening stroll at a country park. Walkers can put their best foot forward at the Riverside Country Park at Rainham with the knowledge if they need to spend a penny after 5pm they can. Medway Council, who manages the park in Lower Rainham Road, has listened to comments made by visitors about the inconvenience of the visitor centre toilets closing before the park. The toilets, located inside the park’s visitor centre, were closed at 5pm to prevent damage caused by vandals. But it left visitors caught short with nowhere to go. A mobile toilet was installed in the car park opposite the visitor centre, last Friday, August 22. It will be in place until 5pm on Sunday, 26 October Medway Council's Portfolio Holder for Community Services Cllr Howard Doe said: "During the past five years the Riverside Country Park visitor centre has suffered at the hands of vandals. Recent months have seen the toilets being targeted and as an attempt to tackle this problem the toilets were closed at 5pm - when the Riverside Country Park Rangers finish. However, we have listened to our visitors’ comments about access to public conveniences when the park is open and are pleased to say we are able to provide a portable toilet to visitors of the park."
