Calling all landlords

Date: 03/09/2008           Category: Housing and Homelessness

Surgeries are taking place this month for anyone who either lets, or intends to purchase a property to rent to other people. Anyone who either lets, or intends to purchase, a three-storey property for letting to five or more people, will need to apply for a House in Multiple Occupation (HMO) Licence. This is the last opportunity for landlords to certify an unlicenced property. Enforcement action will be taken against property owners who fail to buy a licence. Medway Council is holding two HMO licensing surgeries to inform landlords and letting agents about tenancy licensing rules and how they affect them. Landlords will also be apply to apply for a licence at the surgeries. The surgeries will be held at Strood Library in Bryant Road on Wednesday, 10 and Tuesday, 23 September. Both surgeries take place from 2pm and 7pm. Property owners can either simply turn up, or reserve a time with the HMO Licensing Team to discuss their concerns by calling 01634 333533 or 01634 333358.
