Media invite: Working hard to clean up Chatham

There is a photo opportunity at 3pm on Friday, 12 September at Christ Church, Luton Road, Chatham, of the team removing rubbish from the church green. Contact: Dean Laws, 07980 232364 A vast area of Chatham will be targeted this week as part of an intensive clean-up campaign involving Medway Council, Kent Police in Medway, the Driver and Licensing Agency (DVLA) and Kent Probation Service. Offenders under the supervision of Kent Probation's Community Payback Officers, will be clearing rubbish from alleyways and 40 roads during the campaign. The DVLA and the Vehicle and Operator Services Authority (VOSA) will also remove untaxed and un-roadworthy vehicles. Residents can also raise any issues and concerns with members of the Medway Safer Communities Team during two surgeries at Christ Church in Luton Road on Monday, 8 and Tuesday, 9 from 9am to 4pm. Other organisations taking part in the exercise will be Medway Trading Standards, the council’s social regeneration team, waste services, private sector housing, the highways agency, Neighbourhood Cohesion, Border and Immigration authorities, mhs homes, Veolia Waste Services, the Department of Work and Pensions, ward councillors and the council’s environmental enforcement team. Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder for Community Safety and Enforcement Cllr Rehman Chishti said: “This clean-up is an example of the council listening to residents who asked the council and the ward councillors to make their community safer and brighter. “This extensive clean-up campaign will ensure the residents of Luton enjoy their surroundings.” The squad of 40 workers will be concentrating on the following areas of Luton: Albany Road Alexandra Road Alfred Close Ambrose Hill Beacon Hill Beacon Road Bright Road Capstone Road Chamberlain Road Chatham Hill Church Terrace Church Hill Clarence Road Connaught Road Constitution Hill Constitution Road Coronation Road Dagmar Road Edingburgh Road First Avenue Grange Hill Grove Road Henry Street Hopefwell Drive Kings Road Lawn Close Luton High Street Luton Road Maida Road Nelson Terrace Pheasant Road Pig Alley Queens Road Reform Road Second Avenue Seymour Road Thorold Road Tramways Upper Luton Road Victoria Road
