Pomp and circumstance comes to Medway

Date: 27/04/2007           Category: Events

It has been described as rousing, a true celebration of the British summer and more. That's why when the Royal Philharmonic Proms Orchestra visits Medway in July the performance is likely to be a sell-out. The orchestra has been taking part in the Castle Concerts, a highlight of the south-east tourism calendar for several years now. The orchestra was formed in 1987. Since its creation it has been in constant demand for performances and recordings of classical, light classical and popular music, both in the UK and abroad. Celebrities who have worked with the Royal Philharmonic Proms Orchestra include Andrea Bocellil; Lesley Garrett; Sir Cliff Richard; George Benson; Henry Mancini; Dionne Warwick; Stevie Wonder and Luciano Pavarotti. Recent performances include London concerts with Jose Carreras, Liza Minnelli and the Opera Babes, as well as UK tours with Russell Watson and Lesley Garrett. The orchestra appears on the BBC television appeal Children in Need. It has toured Scandinavia, Russia, Estonia, the USA, Spain, Turkey and Monaco and played in 32 sell-out shows with Sir Cliff Richard at the Albert Hall in London The mixture of beautiful pieces of classical music, an English summer and picnics and champagne make it a great night. Tickets for the orchestra’s performance on Saturday, 21 July cost £29 and are available online from www.castleconcerts.co.uk by phone from 01634 338338 or in person at: The Central Theatre box office, 170 High Street, Chatham, Kent.
