Date: 11/09/2008           Category: Arts and Libraries

A range of exciting art forms from around the world are waiting to be explored during Fallout, a series of autumn break and Black History Month workshops for under 18s in Medway. Medway Council’s Arts Development Team have put together a series of activities all aimed at creating a fun learning environment for young people during the school holiday. Children can discover the amazing world of Aborigine Art and create their own masterpieces during a half-day art and craft workshop on Monday, 27 October from 2 – 3.30pm at Chatham Library. The activities are suitable for children aged 8 – 11 years, and the fee is £6. Keen dancers aged 8 - 16 years can look forward to Bollywood Style on Tuesday, 28 October. This will be a one-day workshop offering the chance to learn a fusion of dance styles from India, and discover henna body art. The workshop takes place from 10am to 4pm and the fee is £13.50. There’ll also be a chance for children under 8 to become a pirate for the day at a free workshop on Saturday, 25 October at Chatham Library, from 10.30am to 12 noon. They’ll be busy making and decorating their own pirate hats, getting a face paint scar, and listening to tales of adventure during Pirate Storytime. There are more pirate adventures in store on Wednesday, 29 October at a Treasure Island workshop at The Brook Theatre in Chatham, aimed at children aged 8 – 11 years. Among the activities will be making a treasure chest, designing giant treasure maps and creating jewellery. There’ll also be the chance to see a genuine hoard of ancient coins before making your own pieces of eight, using a special coin-press machine. The Treasure Island Adventure takes place from 10am - 3.30pm and costs £13.50. Places must be booked in advance for all the activities and places are limited.
