Date: 12/09/2008           Category: Public Health

Clear a date in your diary if you want to find out how to quit smoking, tackle obesity and learn about the fight against hospital infections. Medway Primary Care Trust’s annual general meeting on Monday, 29 September from 6pm takes place at the Corn Exchange North Gate, Rochester. Members of the public will have the opportunity to hear Chief Executive Marion Dinwoodie’s review of the year and plans for the future along with how the PCT fares financially from Director of Finance and Assurance, Jonathan Bates. Expectant Medway mums can learn about the choices on offer during and after pregnancy with a Maternity Matters presentation. There will also be 20 staff exhibitions on display throughout the evening where members of the public can arm themselves with information - from getting involved with the PCT as a volunteer to advice about podiatry services. Chairman of Medway PCT Eddie Anderson said: “This is the perfect opportunity for health professionals, other PCTs and members of the public to see what we are achieving here at Medway. “The AGM also gives the public the chance to access services that could help them to improve their health and their lives.” Public Health Team Obesity Project Manager Nicky Ling said there are planned displays including information on teenage pregnancy and sexual health. She said: “Visitors to the AGM will be able to chat informally with various member of the Public Health team and find out what advice, help and support groups are on offer.” On the night there will be an open forum and refreshments.
