Young folk sensation to perform at Central Theatre

Date: 11/09/2008           Category: Arts and Libraries

She may be still a teenager, but Ruth Notman is already a name to be reckoned with on the folk music circuit, and Medway fans can experience her exceptional sound at The Central Theatre’s Folk Cellar on Tuesday, 7 October. Ruth’s debut album Threads has been acclaimed by Mojo, The Guardian, BBC Radio 2’s Mike Harding and has received an album of the week award from The Independent. Like contemporaries KT Tunstall, Kate Rusby and Amy McDonald, she has an edge to her voice and song writing that takes her well beyond folk boundaries, skilfully blending traditional material with unique covers and self-penned songs. Ruth will be supported by popular folk group Skinner’s Rats for the Central Theatre performance. Tickets cost 8, folk mailing list members and Friends of The Central Theatre £7, and are available from the box office on 01634 338338 or online at www.medway.gov.uk/theatrebooking ENDS Editors: For further information and photographs please contact Lisa Caleno on 01634 338308 or email lisa.caleno@medway.gov.uk
