One of the key figures on the British jazz scene makes a stop at The Brook Theatre in Chatham next month. Harry Beckett’s Quintet will perform at the venue on Tuesday, 7 October at 8pm Harry Beckett has been a favourite on both sides of the Atlantic since the late 50s. Born in Barbados, he moved to the UK in 1954 and brought his own highly personal approaches to the trumpet to the cultural mix of 60s jazz. He also featured on the big screen playing alongside the prolific composer and bassist Charlie Mingus in the film All Night Long. He’s since collaborated with a succession of jazz greats, as well as leading his own quintet. The Brook Theatre performance will showcase the music of Charlie Mingus, with Beckett on trumpet, Chris Biscoe on sax, Liam Noble on piano, Fred Baker on bass and Tony Marsh on drums.
