Date: 18/09/2008           Category: Arts and Libraries

There’s a rare chance to get up close with some of Africa’s finest musicians at The Brook Theatre in Chatham next month. As part of the venue’s Explore the World series of music from around the globe, Roots Roundabout presents Out of Africa - adventures in afro beat and sounds from the Savannah. The evening will be a double bill of African rhythms and melodies, featuring Kasai Masai and Atongo Zimba. Kasai Masai root their sound in percussion and chanting, combined with the majestic Congolese folk guitar and jazz saxophone. Inspired by afro beat, Atongo Zimba left the Savannahs of Ghana to go and explore with his musical neighbours, and his debut album fused a funky sounds with traditional roots. For the Brook Theatre performance Zimba will play an acoustic, solo set. Out of Africa will be performed on Saturday, 11 October at 8pm, and there’ll be room to get up and dance. Tickets cost £11 with concessions available, and are available from the box office on 01634 338338, or online at www.medway.gov.uk/theatrebooking ENDS Editors: for further information please contact Lisa Caleno on 01634 338308 or email lisa.caleno@medway.gov.uk
