A sporting chance

Date: 23/09/2008           Category: Adult Learning

Turning a hobby into a career is something many of us dream about but that’s exactly what you can achieve if you enrol on the Active IQ course with Medway Adult Learning Service. The Active IQ Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing has enabled many students to find work at gyms and leisure centres. Course leader Dan Mace said: “The course is aimed at those people who want to find employment in the health and leisure sector. All 10 learners have qualified as fitness instructors. I was impressed with the group’s attendance and attitude. The group gelled together really well. If they wanted to they could all now apply for employment in gyms and leisure centres. Curriculum Planning and Development Manager at MALS Hanife Dacosta assessed the group’s practical performances and portfolios of work. Hanife, a qualified fitness instructor and assessor, said: “The attendance rate was excellent as was the 100 per cent pass rate on both the theory and practical sides to the course.” The next course begins on Wednesday, 24 September. Learners are required to attend 30 weekly sessions from 12noon to 4pm. There are two courses – one for those who want to work in a gym and another Active IQ Level 2 – Exercise to Music.
