Spooky theme for floral displays

Date: 23/10/2008           Category: Adult Learning

Picture: Patricia Magee and Patricia Peacock hard at work creating spooky theme flower displays. A café owner from Rochester is using her creative skills to decorate her shop window ready for Halloween. Since studying Contemporary Floral Design through Medway Adult Learning Service, Patricia Magee has discovered a whole new world of colour, texture and opportunities. Patricia uses her café – Magee’s café in High Street, Rochester – as a showcase for her work, with a seasonal theme. She said: “Since completing the course I have joined Rainham flower club, decorated my local church for my mother-in-laws’ memorial service and even set up an exhibit at Rochester Cathedral on the theme of Oliver Twist, with my friend Patricia Peacock. “Patricia and I also tutored a workshop at Gillingham Horticultural Society’s Floral Art Group teaching ‘A Sisal Bouquet’ complete with research, handouts, demonstration and assistance. Next year we’re going to enter the Kent County Show. “The confidence I have gained in this past year is amazing, and it’s all down to the tutor Jaine Kirby who was fantastic. I really enjoyed the course and Jaine was a real inspiration – she has the ability to blow away the cobwebs for those of us who have not studied in a while.” If you would like to study floral design or any other course through Medway Adult Learning Service please telephone 01634 338400 or email enquiries@medway.gov.uk The course directory is available online at: www.medway.gov.uk/coursedirectory
