On Friday, 24 October, seven new volunteers who dedicate their free time to help out at the All Saints Sure Start Children’s Centre will be presented with certificates as a way of saying thank you for their hard work. The event will take place from 9.30am to 11.00am at the centre in Magpie Hall Road, Chatham. The new recruits will join the centre’s other 20 volunteers, who undergo relevant training and various checks before they can start volunteering. The centre also supports volunteers who are interested in studying for an NVQ by offering them relevant placements within the centre to support their studying. Linda Fiddyment from the All Saints Church Community Project will present the seven people with a certificate and also talk about the value and benefits of volunteering. Angela Jenkins, Project Officer from the Aim higher Team at the University of Kent at Medway, will also talk to the volunteers about learning opportunities at the universities. The centre's Community Development Co-ordinator Jo Bunn said: “We want to celebrate our volunteers who are the unsung heroes of the centre. They provide a valuable service and we want them – and their families – know how much we appreciate their support. “There are many different reasons why people want to volunteer at the centre, some might be looking to work with children in the future and want to gain some valuable work experience, while others want to increase their confidence and skills. We also have parents who want to give back their time to the centre as they have accessed services when their children were growing up.” The event will be held in the Family Room at the centre. Refreshments and light snacks will also be provided. For further information about this event please contact Jo Bunn on 01634 338833.
