Date: 20/10/2008           Category: Learning and Achievement

Twydall Infant School is an outstanding school where pupils make exceptionally good progress in their academic and personal development, according to its latest Ofsted report. Inspectors found a school that “goes the ‘extra mile’ to provide the very best education for every pupil, regardless of background and capabilities.” Headteacher Sue Fedosiuk said: “It is important to the school that pupils with physical disabilities are fully included in every aspect of school life.” Inspectors found that parents greatly appreciated the school’s consistently high quality provision for all aspects of pupils’ learning and development. A key ingredient is the exciting and stimulating curriculum. One parent said: “It is a special, caring and amazing school.” The outcome of the school’s outstanding provision is pupils’ exceptionally good achievement. Many pupils start school with skills and knowledge that are well below those expected for their age but, by year two standards are above average in reading, writing and mathematics. Children also make exceptionally good progress in the Early Years Foundation Stage. This is because the high quality teaching and curriculum has been tailored to meet their individual needs very well. Sue Fedosiuk added: “I am delighted the report recognises the outstanding commitment of everyone involved with the school, which enables all our pupils to make exceptional progress and enjoy their learning.” Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder for Children’s Services Cllr Les Wicks said: “I’m very pleased to note that the inspectors’ report shows what a good school Twydall Infant School is. Clearly all the teachers and support staff are very committed to giving their pupils the very best education and are achieving outstanding results.” Director of Children’s Services Rose Collinson added: “My congratulations to all at Twydall Infant School. I am proud of the achievements of Sue and her team. They make Twydall Infants a very special place where children love coming; where they are safe, happy, learning and making great progress the inspectors are right to recognise the way in which the headteacher and her team work to make sure a warm and welcoming ethos is at the heart of their school for children and families. Children here thrive and thrive and blossom academically and personally and have a very bright future. This outstanding report is well deserved”
