Media invite: You are invited to send a media crew to the official launch of the Medway Community Safety Partnership road safety campaign. Monday, 27 October at 12noon, outside Odeon Cinema, Dickens World, Leviathon Way, Chatham Maritime. The importance of road safety will be driven home to Medway cinema-goers with a hard-hitting advert that is being shown before the main feature film. Cinemas across Medway will be screening the advert from 31 October as part of a major Medway Community Safety Partnership campaign. Medway Council is leading the partnership campaign, called Engage Your Brain – and stay road aware. Its aim is to change people’s attitude by getting them to engage their senses and to pay more attention while on the road, whether they are pedestrians, cyclists, or motorists, to reduce road crashes and casualties. Adverts will be seen across Medway during the following four weeks, showing images of different road users whose brains are, literally, somewhere else – such as listening to their iPod, using a mobile phone, or thinking about a work problem. The campaign will be launched outside Chatham’s Odeon Cinema at 12noon on Monday, 27 October. Medway’s Road Safety Team will be talking to shoppers about the campaign and handing out a range of giveaways carrying the Engage Your Brain message. Members of Kent Fire and Rescue Service, Highways Agency and Kent Police will also be on hand to talk to customers about road safety. There will be a chance to see a preview of the campaign’s cinema commercial, which will be screened at the launch and in Medway’s cinemas from 31 October. Rather than adopt a preaching tone, the commercial takes a satirical angle, using the enthusiastic presence of a funeral director to hit the message home. "The undertaker" will be at the media launch, ready to send passers-by a striking reminder to engage their brain on the roads. There will be a limited number of media passes available at the launch, allowing free entry to the Odeon Cinema when the commercial is screened. Please confirm your attendance by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or phoning 01634 338308.
