Winter warmers

Date: 23/10/2008           Category: Housing and Homelessness

Residents can keep warm this winter and save on energy bills thanks to Medway Council’s Coldbusters scheme. There are a number of things home-owners can apply for including loft insulation, cavity wall insulation and energy efficiency light bulbs. Loft insulation: This is one of the most effective ways to make your home more energy-efficient. Draughtproofing: Plastic strips are fitted to all windows and doors. Cavity-wall insulation: The space between the walls are filled with insulation. Hot-water-tank insulation: Checks are carried out on the insulation around your hot-water tank and a jacket will be fitted, if necessary. Energy-efficient light bulbs: You will receive two free light bulbs. To qualify for the Coldbusters scheme homeowners [or a member of the household] must be in receipt of benefits for example income support, council tax benefit, housing benefit, Job Seekers Allowance (income-based) or pension credit, to name just a few. The maximum spend per household is £5,000. To find out more about the scheme and how to qualify for assistance please phone the private sector housing team on 01634 333066 or email privatesectorhousing@medway.gov.uk The scheme is being delivered by the council’s partners Energy Savings Trust Advice Centre who can be contacted directly on 0800 358 6668 or email Coldbusters@cen.org.uk
