Date: 21/11/2008           Category: Learning and Achievement

The unsung heroes of Medway’s schools are vying to be crowned Medway Governor of the Year at a ceremony in Chatham this weekend. The governors of 50 schools in the area will attend the annual Medway Governors’ Conference at Walderslade Girls’ School in Bradfields Avenue from 9.30am on Saturday, 22 November. Medway Council’s Director of Children and Adults Rose Collinson will present the award to one governor in recognition of their hard work and dedication. There will also be a lifetime achievement award for another governor who has given more than 40 years service to raise educational standards. Their names will be announced next week. The award is sponsored by Medway Council, the Rotary Club of Rochester and the Medway Governors’ Association. The conference continues with governors from schools across Medway listening to a national speaker from The Sorrell Foundation on joinedupdesignforschools and debating the issues of sustainability and how it affects their vision for the future. The Medway Governors’ Association will be holding their Annual General Meeting just before the conference. You are welcome to send a photographer to the school at 9.30am.
