A group for young parents are looking forward to celebrating Christmas with a party. On Tuesday, 9 December young mums and dads (under 20) are invited to Step4ward’s Christmas party at the Children’s Centre, St James’ CE Voluntary Aided School, Grain. The party starts at 10am and includes food and drink and a visit from Father Christmas who will hand out gifts. The event marks the success of the group which was set up at the centre by Medway Council’s Teenage Pregnancy Partnership in conjunction with the Early Years department on 7 October this year. Step4ward provides young parents with peer support and the opportunity to take part in activities including cookery classes and baby massage. Step4ward manager Joanna Hamer said “Step4ward has been a huge hit with young mums and dads who would like to improve existing skills, learn new ones and meet and make new friends in a supportive and relaxed atmosphere.” Joanna added: “Mums and dads can get support and advice from specialist midwives and health visitors and Connexions Young Parents Personal Advisers who offer information on benefit entitlements, housing and education.” The Step4ward group meets every Tuesday between 10am and 12noon and is one of the many services that run at the centre.
