Remember, remember – it’s Medway’s biggest fireworks display

Date: 30/10/2009           Category: Events

The skies above Medway will light up on Saturday, 7 November, as Medway’s annual fireworks display takes place at The Great Lines in Gillingham. By far the safest way to enjoy fireworks is by going to an organised display, and Medway Council’s annual free event is the perfect way to enjoy the festivities, attracting up to 50,000 visitors each year. A spectacular bonfire will be lit at 7pm followed by a stunning display of fireworks starting at 7.30pm. The Mayor of Medway, Cllr. David Royle will press a magic button to light the giant bonfire at 7pm, followed by a stunning display of fireworks starting at 7.30pm. Heart FM’s Drive Time presenter Neil Kefford will be on stage from 5pm to start the big countdown to the fireworks. Comedy impressionist Paul Burling, who stars in this year’s pantomime Aladdin at The Central Theatre, will be along to entertain the crowds with his brilliant comedy impressions. New to this year’s event will be a special bring a guy competition. Visitors are invited to make a guy at home before the night, and then bring him along to the craft tent by 6pm for the competition. The Mayor of Medway will judge the best guy and its creator will win a family ticket to this year’s pantomime Aladdin. Young visitors will get the chance to make their own colourful and sparkly hats as they wait for the fireworks to start. Free workshops will be taking place in the craft tent from 5pm to 7pm, and there’s no need to book in advance – just turn up and join in. All children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Workshops last for 30 minutes per session, and places are subject to availability on a first come first served basis. Refreshments will be on sale during the bonfire and fireworks display. Please do not bring your own fireworks, sparklers or pets. Marlborough Road will be closed during the event and there are no parking facilities and toilets on site. Nearest parking at the Black Lion Leisure Centre. Call 01634 333333 or visit www.whatsonmedway.co.uk for more details
