Date: 22/03/2011           Category: Libraries and Archives

A celebration event at Rainham Library will mark the 50th anniversary of its opening.

Staff at the library are hoping residents and regular library users will join them for coffee and birthday cake on Tuesday, 29 March between 10am and 12noon.

Rochester-born actor and author Russell Thorndike opened the library in 1961. His father was Canon at Rochester Cathedral in the 1880s. The library cost £21, 570 to build.
