Explore the great outdoors at a country park

Date: 01/08/2011           Category: Greenspaces

Get cycling, walking and exploring in the great outdoors this summer at Capstone Country Park.

Among other things, the country park boasts a mountain bike track, three other cycle routes and four walking routes that are all free to use. In addition to this, there is also 4.5km of bridleway for horse riders to use free of charge.

The mountain bike trail offers keen mountain bikers the chance to try out some big hills and ramps on a relatively short track.

Mountain bikers who want to test their skills should head down to the park on Sunday, 28 August from 8.45am to 9.30am, for a skills session.

Members of the media are welcome to attend.

Mountain bikers will be encouraged to ride around the trail with the aim of bettering their lap time with every turn. The session costs £1 per person and booking is essential. Phone 01634 338191.

Trim trail
Keep fit and enjoy some fresh air at the same time on Capstone Park’s Trim Trail.

Eight pieces of Trim Trail equipment offer a fun alternative to a gym workout and once a month rangers will be on hand to offer safety guidance and demonstrations.

The next session is on Sunday, 7 August from 8.45am to 9.30am. £1 per person. Book in advance on 01634 338191.

Survival Challenge
Budding Bear Grylls can test their survival skills at a survival challenge at Capstone on Saturday, 13 to Sunday, 14 August.

Camp out in the park’s woodlands with the rangers, sleeping in a shelter you have built from materials found around the park. You will cook your own food over the campfire, learn traditional woodland crafts such as tent peg making and whistle making.

For accompanied children aged seven years plus. £20 per person (includes breakfast). For more details and to book in advance, phone 01634 338191.
