Medway Council Trading Standards have been testing buggies and pushchairs as part of National Child Safety Week.
The free tests took place on Tuesday, 19 June, at All Saints Sure Start Children's Centre on Magpie Hall Road, Chatham.
Using a purpose built test rig, trading standards officers were able to check the brakes, chassis, stability, wheels, locking mechanism and harnesses of the buggies.
Trading Standards officers checked over fifty buggies and found most in a satisfactory condition. They also gave advice to parents on a variety of maintenance issues.
Cllr Mike O’Brien, Portfolio Holder for Community Safety and Customer Contact, said: “With people buying products over the internet or second hand goods – which is something that more and more are doing in the current economic climate - it is important that they make sure the nursery goods they get meet required safety standards.
“Our officers attended the centre to check the buggies and provide advice to parents on this.
“The Trading Standards team are happy to attend any family or community events with their buggy testing rig. If people would like them to attend they can be contacted on 01634 333170.”
National Child Safety Week runs from 18 to 24 June,
