After a number of joint guides with Swale, 2008 sees the first visitor guide devoted to Medway. This reflects the huge advancement in the tourist offer in the last two years including the opening of a major attraction - Dickens World and the first significant new hotel development for a decade - the Ramada Encore. The full colour guide was launched on Monday, 14 January, 1.45pm at the Historic Dockyard, Chatham. The guide has taken on a fresh approach in terms of design and content. It is made up of themes including Medway's heritage and culture, events and festivals as well as places to visit, travelling and accomodation. Sections written in English, French, German and Dutch make this an extremely accessible guide for tourists. Medway Council's Portfolio Holder for Strategic Development and Economic Growth Cllr Jane Chitty said: "We're proud to be launching the first visitor guide dedicated to Medway. The area has so much to offer and this easy to use, informative guide does well to highlight this. Having our own guide will help to support the growing tourism economy which is so important to Medway. " Distribution will be both national and international with 55,000 copies being produced. It will be available from tourist information centres throughout the UK and our own visitor information centre in Rochester High Street. Medway is also a member of the national city breaks partnership and will be promoted along with other major cities such as Newcastle, Liverpool, Portsmouth and Leeds in a national media and e-marketing campaign.
