Medway has once again been invited to lead the Chinese New Year parade in London. Medway Kut O Association and the Medway Dragon and Lion Dance Sports Association will lead the capital's parade on Sunday, 10 February before taking part in Medway's new year parade on Sunday, 17 February. This is the third year that Medway has been asked to join in London's celebrations. The Mayor of Medway Cllr Val Goulden and her Escort Cllr Tony Goulden will join the dignitaries including Ken Livingstone, the Mayor of Westminster and the Chinese ambassador to watch the entertainment in Trafalgar Square. Entertainment includes performances from the Medway and Foshan Lion Dance Teams and the Medway Dragon Dance Team during the afternoon. If you don't get a chance to go to London, don't worry. We have plenty in store for you here in Medway including: Kong He Fat Choy Saturday, 9 February 12noon – 1.30pm, Military Road, Chatham Music and dancing from the Medway Lion Dance Team, Foshan Lion Dance Team, Dance Alley Dancers and the Dragon and Lion Drum Team will welcome the Chinese New Year. Chinese New Year decorations will be on sale so that you can dress your home for the celebrations. Welcome the Year of the Rat Sunday, 17 February 12noon, Chatham High Street Mayor of Medway Cllr Val Goulden and Chinese Embassy guests will lead Medway's Chinese New Year parade as it makes it way from under the Sir John Hawkins Way flyover through Chatham High Street to Church Street, at the eastern end of the High Street. It's believed to be the largest parade in the south-east of England (after London) and with more than 150 people in Chinese costume this is set to be a colourful scene. 12.30 – 2.30pm, Chatham High Street near Tesco Chinese New Year entertainment from the Medway Dragon Dance Team, Medway Lion Dance Team, Foshan Lion Dance Team, Chinese Folk Dance with Dance Alley Dancers and the Dragon and Lion Drum Team.
