Date: 14/01/2008           Category: Leisure

Do you think you have what it takes to beat off the challenge of other Medway's businesses? Are you and your colleagues ready to demonstrate your sporting prowess on the football pitch or golf course? Has the time come for you to brush off your tracksuit and reach for your trainers to try your hand at sports including badminton, table tennis and netball? Following the success of a trial football tournament in October, Medway Council is pleased to announce the Medway Business Games programme for 2008. The Games is a series of five tournaments aimed at getting Medway's working population out of their suits and into their shorts, competing in a series of friendly tournaments and challenging for the ultimate honour of being crowned Medway Business Games Champions for 2008. The 2008 programme will kick off in February with a five-a-side football tournament at the new Kicks Soccer Centre, at Strood Leisure Centre. This will be followed by badminton in March, table tennis in April, golf in May and netball in June, with the competitions being held at some of Medway's top sports facilities. The full list of events is as follows: · Five-a-side football on Friday, 29 February · Badminton on Wednesday, 19 March · Table tennis on Friday, 25 April · Golf on Friday, 30 May · Netball on Friday, 27 June Trophies will be presented to the winning team in each sport, and points will be awarded to the top eight teams in each event. The company or organisation with the most points at the end of the five events will receive the overall winners' trophy. Medway 2012 Manager Bob Dimond said: "We were delighted with the success of the football event in October, which proved very popular with all of the companies that took part. We look forward to seeing many more companies and organisations join us for the 2008 events. "It is an opportunity for bosses to promote the benefits of a healthy workforce and for local companies and organisations to network and be part of Medway's countdown to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympics Games." The Medway Business Games forms part of the Medway Games programme aimed at increasing opportunities for the whole community to participate in organised, competitive sport.
