Children from across Medway will be swapping their pens for shuttlecocks this Wednesday (16 January) by taking part in a sport festival to encourage more young people to play badminton. Medway Council’s Sports Development team has invited 16 primary schools from the area to take part in the Badminton Into Schools Initiative (BISI). The year three and four pupils will spend the morning playing a range of activities and competitions at the Castlemaine Hall in Castlemaine Road, Gillingham, from 9am to 12.30pm. Pupils who take part will also be presented with a certificate at the end of the session. Medway Council’s Sports Development Officer Sarah Risby said: “This is a great way for children to have a go at this exciting sport. ”The Castlemaine Hall has excellent facilities for badminton players and we hope some of the children who take part in the session continue playing the sport.” Medway Badminton Association, who run the Castlemaine Hall, and Badminton England are also supporting the event. You are welcome to send a reporter / photographer / media crew to the event. The workshops begin at 9.30am and the presentations take place at 12.30pm. Please call Laura Patrick on 01634 332017 or email laura.Patrick@medway.gov.uk to confirm your attendance.
