Doctor jazz to prescribe improvisation at The Brook Theatre

English jazz great and retired orthopaedic surgeon, Art Themen, is bringing his quartet to The Brook Theatre, Chatham on Tuesday, 5 February, 8pm. The saxophonist has been one of the leading players on the UK circuit for over 40 years. Joining Art on stage are John Critchinson on piano, Dave green on bass and drummer Dave Barry. These four musicians have played with legendary names including Ronnie Scott, Coleman Hawkins, Sonny Rollins and Charlie Watts. Art began his career playing with rock and blues artists, Jack Bruce and Alexis Korner, before developing his own style that feeds on diverse influences, from Sonny Rollins to John Coltrane. Steeped in jazz history and armed with the art of improvisational brilliance, this quartet is a must for jazz fans, old and new. Tickets cost £9, folk mailing list members £8.
