The great no smoking day challenge

Date: 04/03/2008           Category: Public Health

No Smoking Day is on Wednesday, 12 March and is a good time to quit smoking – join the one million other people who are estimated to give up on the day. Medway Stop Smoking Service will be at Asda in Chatham on Monday, 10 March from 9.30am to 3.30pm. A £50 gift card to spend in Asda will be included in the raffle to any Medway smokers signing up to courses at the stand on the day. The team and toxic tobacco himself Sid the Cigarette will also be at the Pentagon Shopping Centre from 9am to 3.30pm on National No Smoking Day Wednesday, 12 March. The team can offer free help and advice to quit smoking, information on different treatment options such as patches, gum, Zyban and Champix. The team can book you on courses, drop in's and one-to-one sessions where you can pick up your chosen treatment for just the cost of a prescription. Stop Smoking Advisor Joscelin Yates said: “Contact your local Medway Stop Smoking Service on freephone 0800 234 6805 and by using their help and a proven drug treatment you’ll be four times more likely to succeed in giving up. “Remember getting help and support when you are stopping smoking is the most important thing you can do. If you take up the challenge to stop smoking for one week you could save yourself £36.40 which is equivalent to a cheap flight abroad or a few CDs.” As an extra incentive there will be a prize draw for all Medway residents who sign up to quit smoking. A signed football from Gillingham Football Club will be up for grabs for those who are willing to try and kick the habit for good.
