Line-up for Castle Concerts 2008 announced

Date: 04/03/2008           Category: Events

It's going to be a summer of musical excellence in Medway. Today (Tuesday, 4 March) the line-up for the performers appearing at this year's Castle Concerts in Rochester Castle Gardens was announced. For 2008 there will be four Castle Concerts, taking place from Wednesday, 16 July to Saturday, 19 July. So, who features in the line-up? Well, the legendary Status Quo is making a triumphant return to the castle gardens. Quo will be playing on Friday, 18 July before an anticipated sell-out audience. The band last appeared at Castle Concerts in 2005. The concert sold out in days - it was the fastest-selling gig ever for Castle Concerts. Talented musician Jools Holland & His Rhythm and Blues Orchestra will be making their sixth appearance on Thursday, 17 July. Jools is a favourite at Castle Concerts, which have almost become like a second home. This year Jools is bringing along some very special guests - Gilson Lavis, Marc Almond, Ruby Turner and Louise Marshall. Opening Castle Concerts 2008 is our very own Soul Party. Headlining on Wednesday, 16 July will be The Edwin Starr Band featuring Angelo Starr. Angelo is a first-class musician. Also playing will be Brenda Edwards, a woman with a very big voice. Finally, The Soul Traders, who are no stranger to Castle Concerts, will be performing too. It promises to be a night to party. The last night - Saturday, 19 July - belongs, as always, to Castle Proms and the superb musicianship of the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra. There will be fireworks and water fountains and a programme of old favourites, as well as some new classical numbers. Portfolio Holder for Community Services Cllr Howard Doe said: "I am very excited about the acts who are appearing at this year's concerts. I think it promises to be a splendid series of concerts, which will appeal to a tremendous number of people of all ages. The concerts have always been popular and I believe that this year will be no different. Roll on July.'' Tickets for all four concerts will go on sale on Wednesday, 12 March at 10am.
