Pictures of volunteers now available Volunteers who help out at a Sure Start centre in Chatham have had their hard work recognised at a celebration event. On Wednesday, 27, the 25 volunteers who dedicate their free time to help out at the All Saints Sure Start Children’s Centre in Magpie Hall Road were presented with certificates as a way of saying thank you for their commitment. Jane Legg from the Rochester Hands Volunteer Bureau spoke to the guests about the value and benefits of volunteering. Project workers from the Aim Higher team at the University of Kent at Medway also attended to talk about learning opportunities at the universities. All of the centre’s volunteers undertake relevant training and undergo various checks before they can start volunteering. The centre also supports volunteers who are interested in studying for an NVQ by offering them relevant placements within the centre to support their studying. Community Development Co-ordinator Jo Bunn said: “There are many different reasons why people want to volunteer at the centre, some might be looking to work with children in the future and want to gain some valuable work experience, while others want to increase their confidence and skills. We also have parents who want to give back their time to the centre as they have accessed services when their children were growing up. By having this celebration we want to show them that we value them and want to help them further develop their skills.” For further information about this event please contact Jo Bunn on 01634 338833.
