School staff are being invited to nominate a colleague whose outstanding contribution to their work sets them apart as someone special. The Medway School Workforce Awards - supported by the Medway Messenger - are designed to recognise those special individuals – from midway meals supervisors to teachers – who go ‘the extra mile’ in all areas of school life. The awards, being held this year for the first time, are designed to recognise “education’s most important resource" – the people who make a difference every day. All staff - not just teachers - are encouraged to get involved. “From caretakers and midday meals supervisors to teaching assistants and teachers, everybody has an important role to play in school life,” explained school workforce development co-ordinator Elaine Hunt. “We want staff in Medway’s schools to nominate individuals they think have done an outstanding job, perhaps by giving outstanding service over and above the requirements of the job, consistently working to an exceptional standard, introducing new ways of working or demonstrating commitment to the school, staff or pupils.” The closing date for nominations is Friday, 23 May 2008 and the winners will be announced at a ceremony on 9 July at the Corn Exchange.
