On sale and selling fast

Date: 12/03/2008           Category: Events

It was a day eagerly awaited by many fans of good music. Tickets for Castle Concerts 2008 went on sale at 10am this morning and business is brisk for all acts appearing in Rochester Castle Gardens this summer. When tickets went on sale there was a queue at Medway Visitor Information Centre in Rochester High Street, as people waited to buy their tickets in person. Three friends from Greenwich, were at the front of the queue. They had been there since 6am and were delighted to snap up 20 or so tickets for Status Quo and Jools Holland & His Rhythm and Blues Orchestra. Sylvia Truscott, Jennifer Fairless and Sandra Grasby said the bitterly cold wind had not been enough to put them off waiting for tickets. Sandra said: "Rochester Castle Gardens is just such a fabulous environment for a concert. In 2005 when Status Quo last appeared here I queued by myself for tickets, but this time I persuaded my friends to join me. We're off to get some breakfast now we've got our tickets.'' A little further along in the queue was couple Paul and Janet Wells-Cutler from Gillingham. Four years ago Paul managed to meet his idols Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt. at a book signing at lakeside Shopping Centre in Thurrock . He said they were down-to-earth and great people. "They were really nice people and we couldn't miss the opportunity to see them in Rochester, it's right on our doorstep,'' Paul said. Perhaps, one of the most devoted Status Quo fans waiting patiently for his turn to buy a ticket was Stefan Arbon, of Rochester. Stefan has seen Quo every year since 1986. He said: "I was here when they appeared in 2005 and am looking forward to seeing them in this venue again. I last saw them in Ipswich in Suffolk in November. I can't wait.'' People buying tickets for Castle Concerts 2008 were of all ages this morning. Tickets sales were particularly brisk for Status Quo, but other acts were selling too. Among the mature Quo fans were Mick and Mavis Rowland, of Gillingham. Aged 72 and 70, they haven't let age get in the way of having a good time. They saw Status Quo at Rochester Castle Gardens in 2005 and have also seen Rod Stewart and Meatloaf in recent years. Mavis said: "We like Status Quo very much. We saw Chrissie Hynde and the Pretenders here a few years ago now and they were just great too. We've got three children and eight grandchildren but we tend to go to the gigs by ourselves.'' Tickets also went on sale online today at www.castleconcerts.co.uk and over the phone on 01634 338338 or 01634 843666. You can buy tickets in person at the visitor information centre or at The Central Theatre box office in Chatham High Street. Events Manager Carl Madjitey said: "The website and phone lines have been extremely busy all day and we are grateful to everyone who is bearing with us trying to get through.' We can assure customers that we are processing people as quickly as we can.'' Portfolio Holder for Community Services Cllr Howard Doe said: "We have a fantastic line-up this year and I am confident that everyone who buys a ticket will have a great night of entertainment.''
