Best foot forward for nursery nurse

Date: 13/03/2008           Category: Medway PCT

With just one month left before the Flora London Marathon, nursery nurse Michelle Beattie is busy pounding the pavements of Medway in preparation for the big race on Sunday, 13 April. Michelle, who is based at the Keystone Centre, Strood, is running for the charity Children with Leukaemia. She said: “I wanted to do something this year - every year I watch the marathon but this year I’ve decided to take part. “I did run it three years ago, but I didn’t train properly and didn’t have a very good finish time. This year I’ve trained properly and I’m hoping to better my time from before.” Michelle’s punishing schedule means she is training seven days a week - five at the gym on the treadmill and then two days road running. She said: “Running on the road is really hard. I’d run a half marathon on the treadmill in one hour, 40 minutes and thought ‘great’, but when I came to running on the road, it took me twice as long! “Now I’ve set my mind to it, I’m determined to succeed.” If you’d like to sponsor Michelle contact her on 01634 717755 or email michelle.beattie@medwaypct.nhs.uk [ends]
