Double win for banking duo at Games

Date: 25/03/2008           Category: Leisure

A dynamic duo from HSBC swept the board in the Medway Business Games badminton tournament. Nikki Coshall and Kevin Rogers represented the banking firm in the mixed doubles and men's doubles event - with Nikki playing as a man - and took the titles in both events. Their efforts secured them the trophy and maximum points for HSBC in the overall Medway Business Games 2008 competition. However, a sixth-placed finish by the Kent Reliance Building Society team means KRBS hold on the top spot on the leaderboard after two of the five events. The tournament was held at Medway Badminton Association's Castlemaine Hall, which has recently become one of five Medway sports facilities to be approved for inclusion in the official pre-Games training camp guide for the 2012 Olympics. Eight different companies were represented, with some fielding more than one team, and the standard of play was impressive. After an energetic afternoon's competition, the final leader board combining the results in the mixed and men's events was a follows: Position Team Points earned 1 HSBC 12 2 Medway Badminton Association 10 3 Medway Council 8 4 MHS Homes 6 5 Medway Renaissance 5 6 Kent Reliance Building Society 4 7 ABC Business Network 3 8 Royal Bank of Scotland 2 Every player who took part received a 7-day Medway Leisure pass, while the winning pair and runners up in the mixed and men's doubles events won racket bags kindly donated by Carlton. Medway Council would like to staff at Medway Badminton Association for hosting the event, and the volunteers from Rainham Mark Grammar School and Chatham South School for their help in running the tournament. The overall Medway Business Games 2008 leaderboard after two events is as follows: Position Team Points earned 1 Kent Reliance Building Society 16 2 HSBC 14 3= Henry Schein 10 3= MHS Homes 10 3= Medway Badminton Association 10 6= Medway Council 8 6= Medway Police 8 8 Furley Page 6 9= Medway Renaissance 5 9= Strood Sports Centre 5 11= ABC Business Network 3 11= Medway Messenger 3 13 Royal Bank of Scotland 2 14= Canterbury Young Professionals/ Strutt & Parker 0 14= Lloyds TSB 0 The next event is table tennis, which takes place on 25 April at another of Medway's approved Olympic training venues, the Howard Table Tennis Centre.
