Cafe brings Sunlight to civic HQ

Date: 31/03/2008           Category: Economic Development

Homemade soup, sandwiches and a selection of healthy lunch choices are on the menu for council staff at their new office. Sunlight Social Enterprises has been selected to deliver all catering services at the council’s new corporate headquarters at Gun Wharf, Chatham. Medway Council's Portfolio Holder for Finance Cllr Alan Jarrett said: "We were delighted to offer Sunlight Social Enterprises the catering contract for the new civic headquarters. Sunlight supports local projects and funds community development throughout Medway, which is excellent news for local people." Sunlight Social Enterprises Chief Executive Peter Holbrook said: “The Sunlight Trust is delighted to see Medway Council embracing social enterprise in this way. We are all very proud of our training programmes and the experience and opportunities that these have offered to people in Medway who want to learn skills and get into work. For some people, this may be the first job they’ve had and supporting people to make that step is key to the success of the Trust. “This new enterprise will share many features of the already successful cafes delivered by the trust. All Sunlight cafes offer good food and this means fresh food made by real chefs. Sunlight also actively promotes fairly traded and organic choices and importantly they will be working with local suppliers - butchers, bakers and farmers to source their stock.” This will be the fifth cafe in Sunlight’s portfolio of social enterprises. The other cafes are located at the healthy living centres in Rochester, Lordswood and Rainham and at The Sunlight Centre in Gillingham.
