Medway Council has appointed a new Media Manager to help keep the work of the high-profile authority in the public eye. Chris Steel has joined the unitary authority from neighbouring Gravesham Borough Council, where he worked as the senior media officer. He will be responsible for promoting the wide range of services Medway Council provides for local people and highlighting the growing opportunities Medway offers for business and tourism. Chris made the move into local government public relations after beginning his career in journalism, working in the regional and national press. The 30 year old said he was excited by the opportunities ahead. "While Medway is a young authority, the area it serves has an impressive history, from its links with Dickens to its maritime heritage. "Add to this its status as one of the Government's growth areas and the extensive regeneration projects underway and you have a place with a huge amount to shout about. I'm looking forward to helping the team place Medway firmly on the map." Chris will also edit Medway Matters, the community magazine produced six times a year by the council. He replaces Natalie Yost and will report to Colette Glasson, Communications Manager.
