The challenges and problems when faced with a diagnosis of dementia were debated by at a dementia workshop to look at how future care services are delivered in Medway. Medway’s Time for Action - Shaping Dementia Care - was organised by Medway Primary Care Trust in conjunction with Medway Council. The purpose of the event was to involve patients and carers in the development of services that provide the best outcome for the individual. The outcome of the workshop will inform the redesign of dementia services. Representatives attended from Medway Maritime Hospital, Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust, voluntary organisations, patients and carers. Wendy Alleway, Commissioning Manager at Medway PCT, said: “Feedback on the day revealed attendees felt it was constructive and informative and helped them enormously in understanding the problems and obstacles patients and their carers face when diagnosed with dementia. “Everyone who attended is now looking forward to hearing the findings of the workshop and the next steps as we work towards developing the integrated dementia care pathway.”
