use. To the best of our knowledge cookies are only used on our
websites to enhance the user experience, to enable specific
features to function and to enable us to gather statistics about
the way users navigate our websites to inform
future development.

Personal data
Medway Council values your right to personal privacy and is
committed to protecting your privacy online. The council, at all
times, endeavours to be open about why it collects, holds and uses
any personal information or data submitted via its website by which
you can be identified (ie name, address, email) in accordance with
the provisions of the Data
Protection Act 1998. This ensures that the information is
collected fairly and lawfully, is accurate, adequate, up to date
and not held any longer than necessary.
It will not be used by the council for any other reason other than
for the original purpose for which it is being collected, for
example, in regards to an online query or transactional service or
in order to improve our services. The council will not sell,
trade or rent your information to other third parties. The council
may pass their details on to third party service providers who are
contracted to Medway Council in the course of dealing with their
request. These third parties are obliged to keep their details
securely, will use them only to fulfil the request and will dispose
of the details when the request is complete.
If you are a user with general public and anonymous access, the
Medway Council website does not store or capture (unless otherwise
stated) personal information but merely logs your IP address
that is automatically recognised by the web server.
Security
It must be noted that sending an email or submitting
information online cannot be made totally secure and, despite
the council using all reasonable endeavours to protect personal
data and/or information, the council cannot warrant any degree of
security.
Securing your data
All web systems used by the council which require the transfer
of sensitive personal data such as payment card details have been
placed in a secure environment.
Our security arrangements offer a minimum of 128bit SSL
encryption and you can check that the site is secure by
checking that there is an 'https://' in the address bar.
