Occupational health and safety
Health and safety work for all employees of the council is
administered centrally by the Health and Safety Team in the
Business Support Department to achieve
cohesive and efficient service delivery. The team's focus is on the
key areas for risk assessment and management within the council and
it has a programme of activities, including:
- audits and inspections of all council offices and schools,
- risk assessments for all work-based activities,
- the provision of health and safety training,
- the provision of advice to directorates on health and safety
legislation and good practice.
Other measures are being taken to unify and strengthen the
council's approach to occupational health and safety:
- special effort is being put into increasing levels of employee
participation in health and safety initiatives and training,
- the corporate health and safety
policy and statement of intent have
been updated,
- health and safety policies and training for managers and
supervisors in each directorate have been relaunched.
To enhance the liaison between the corporate Health and Safety
Team and the rest of the council, each directorate has a named lead
contact officer.
