Untold stories

The theme for 2011 was Untold stories. Download the Untold Stories information leaflet (pdf 763KB) here. To use this file you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you do not have it on your computer, please use our advice page.

There are millions of stories that will never know. Stories of individuals, communities and towns, those who suffered under Nazi persecution to those who were murdered under the exclusionary policies in Cambodia, Bosnia, Rwanda and Darfur.

How does it relate to today?

Genocide is an act of extreme exclusion. By understanding how the building blocks of genocide are laid, we can deal positively with people who are bullies, who stereotype, persecute or attack those who are different. Clearly this links in with Hate Crime management and our positive action can go some way to honouring those whose lives have been destroyed.

Holocaust Memorial Day creates opportunities for all diverse strands of our communities to come together to remember the past and commit to creating a better future.  With a safer and more inclusive society, where differences between us are respected and valued.
