Circuit training - Hoo

Photo of woman during circuit trainingCircuit training involves performing a set of exercises in short bursts and in rotation. Stations are usually sequenced to alternate between muscle groups to allow for recovery.

Circuit training keeps your heart rate elevated throughout the workout which promotes cardiovascular conditioning. Benefits include improved energy levels, lower blood pressure, increased HDL (good cholesterol) levels and improved endurance. It also increases strength, improves posture, develops body tone, enhances muscle balance and increases bone density, which helps prevent osteoporosis.

Exercises can be varied and may include press-ups; bench dips, leg raises, stomach crunches, dumbbell exercises, jumping jacks, and squat jumps.

Remember that it is important to warm up beforehand and to cool down afterwards. If you are unsure as to the suitability of this strenuous form of exercise, please consult your doctor.
