Netball - Strand

The Strand Leisure Pool and Park has a large court on which both netball anPhoto of a netball eventd five-a-side football can be played.

Netball was originally called basquette and its creation comes from a simple misunderstanding. When Dr. James Naismith, the inventor of the modern game of basketball, was asked to send a copy of the rules to Clara Baer, a sports teacher in New Orleans, he sent a drawing of the court with lines on it. Baer thought that the lines indicated that the players couldn't leave those areas and thus was the game of netball created.

Until the formal rules were established in 1960 by the International Federation of Women's Basketball and Netball, both nine-a-side and five-a-side versions were played.

It costs £15.90 to hire the court.
