Outdoor swimming pools - Strand

Photo of family in swimming poolStrand Leisure Pool and Park is one of Medway's most popular outdoor attractions.

The main pool has six 25-metre lanes opening out into a large fun pool.

And, running around the outside the main pool, is England's largest lazy river, which is 300m in circumference.

There is also a circular children's paddling pool.

Swimming pool opening times

The pools are open from 24 May to 30 September. 

Opening times are subject to change during adverse weather conditions.

  • 8.30am to 9.30am Adult early riser Swim for just £1 (seven days a week)
  • 10am to 2.30pm Public Session ( seven days a week)
  • 3pm to 7.30 Family Session (Mon to Sat) Inflatable Session (Sun)
  • Inflatable sessions Mon and Weds in the School Holidays 3pm to 7.30pm

Free swimming

Free swimming is available for under-16s and over-60s living in Medway during normal opening times. To take up the offer, residents will need proof that they live in Medway and will be able to do this with a free Medway City Card.

All under-16s and those over-60 will need the card to take part in free swimming and can get one for free by applying for it online at Medway City Card, or by completing a form available from leisure centres.

Please note free swimming for Under 16s using the city card is available for all sports centre sessions marked Public Swimming and Free Swimming, all other sessions are chargeable.

Adult to child ratios

Eight-year-olds and younger must be accompanied in the water by an adult. An adult is a 16-year-old or older. Three-year-olds and younger must have an adult in the water with them at all times. One adult may accompany no more than two four to seven-year-olds.
