Squash - Strood

Squash has its humble beginnings in the notorious Fleet prison where the prisoners used to hit a ball against the walls.

The game, known as "rackets", somehow foundPhoto of a squash racket its way up the social ladder to Harrow and by 1864, this prestigious public school had built four squash courts.

Squash is now played in 130 countries, but, despite its popularity, the game is still not an Olympic sport.

Visit the official website of the World Squash Federation for the rules of squash.

Strood Leisure Centre has two squash courts with a viewing area.

Squash rackets can be hired for £2 each.
