Young adults

Teenagers in a circleLibraries have much to offer young adults in a friendly and safe environment. 

Reading

Medway Libraries hold collections of books aimed at young adults in all 16 libraries. These collections are regularly updated to include the latest titles. To find out what is available, visit the online catalogue

As well as popular fiction titles, these collections include audio books on CD and pre-loaded MP3 player, large print and Barrington Stoke titles.

All Medway Libraries members have free access to downloadable eBooks including many young adult titles.

Popular magazines and journals are available to read in some libraries.  These include Empire, Total Film, NME, Metal Hammer, Mojo, Kerrang, Top Gear, PlayStation and FourFourTwo.

Homework and study

Medway Libraries' non-fiction collections include revision and study guides for most subjects.  The online resources page includes a number of resources designed to help with homework and study.

Strood and Hempstead libraries have Homework Clubs and library staff are specially trained to help with homework enquiries in all libraries.

Library cards

It is free to get a library card and you can borrow up to 30 books. 

If you visit with a parent or carer and ask them to bring address identification with them you can get a full card allowing you to borrow up to 30 items including books, films on DVD or Blu Ray and console games.  With a full card and parental permission you can also access the internet and Microsoft Office applications for free in the library. 

Duke of Edinburgh Award

Skills or volunteering placements are available for the volunteering or skills strands of the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Skills

This covers all aspects of library work.

Volunteering

This involves supporting people in the library, examples might include assisting at a homework, craft or reading club.

Summer Reading Challenge Volunteers

Placements are also available during the summer holidays for volunteers to support the Summer Reading Challenge. If you are interested in applying, complete the Young Peoples Volunteer Application Form (pdf 20KB). To download a pdf you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader. Staying up to date

Information on your local area, clubs and societies, colleges and universities and much more is available from your local library. You can also follow Medway Libraries on Facebook and Twitter.

Library links, Medway Libraries' subject guide to the internet, offers links to WebPages  designed to help with many life situations as well as study and leisure interests. These links are checked by a librarian to ensure they carry accurate and current information.
