The Hobbit - An Unexpected Journey - DVD and
Blu Ray
The first of three epic instalments in director Peter
Jackson's blockbuster prequel to his Lord of the Rings
trilogy. Set in Middle-Earth 60 years before events in The Lord
of the Rings, the story follows the adventures of Hobbit Bilbo
Baggins (Martin Freeman), who, at the instigation of the wizard
Gandalf (Ian maMcKellen), suddenly finds himself co-opted into
joining a company of 13 Dwarves led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard
Armitage) to help reclaim the Dwarves' lost kingdom of the Lonely
Mountain from the clutches of Smaug the dragon (voiced by Benedict
Cumberbatch). After setting out on their quest from the safety of
Bag End, the band of travellers soon find themselves pitted against
a range of strange and fearsome opponents, in addition to a small,
slimy creature known simply as Gollum (Andy Serkis).
A Good Day to Die Hard
Bruce Willis reprises his role as the
vest-wearing NY cop John McClane in this fifth instalment of the
archetypal action franchise. This time around, McClane travels to
Russia to help out his son Jack (Jai Courtney), who, unbeknownst to
his father, is an undercover CIA operative trying to stop the theft
of nuclear weapons. With the Russian mafia snapping at their heels
and time running out, the pair soon discover that although their
approaches may differ slightly, the end result is certainly no less
explosive.
Lincoln
Steven Spielberg's Academy Award-winning political biopic
stars Daniel Day-Lewis as America's 16th president Abraham Lincoln.
The film focuses on the last few months of Lincoln's life, which
not only saw the ending of slavery despite dogged opposition from
many inside Lincoln's own cabinet, but also the Union victory in
the American Civil War. The supporting cast includes Sally Field as
Lincoln's wife Mary, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Lincoln's son Robert
and Tommy Lee Jones as Radical Republican Congressional leader
Thaddeus Stevens. Daniel Day-Lewis won the Academy Award, a Golden
Globe and a BAFTA for Best Actor for his performance.
