  • Replica of the Newcomb War Diary 1939-1945 - commissioned by the Chatham Historical Society  for the benefit of the people of Medway and dedicated to "The Newcomb and Paine families, and the people of Medway, (Service personnel and civilians) who lived through the events described in the diary.  The diary is on display next to the main issue counter at Strood Library.

We supply recycling bags, dog poop bags, issue visitor's parking vouchers and sell memory sticks and earbud headphones.

  • Teatime Storytime - Tuesday, 4-5pm term time, and 2-3pm school holidays only
  • Baby bounce and rhyme - Tuesday and Thursday, 10.30-11am
  • Pop in and play - Saturday, 9am-12noon
  • Toddler shake and boogie - Monday, 10am and 11am (booking essential one week in advance)
  • New to computers - Arranged on request 
  • Health and lifestyle advice - Second Tuesday of the month, 10am-12noon
  • Medway health walks - Tuesday, 9.45 for 10am start
  • West Kent Lifeways - Monday, 10am-1pm
  • Kent Family History Society (help and guidance for family tree research and genealogy) - Last Thursday of the month, 1-4.30pm
  • Medway lace makers (£3.50 per session) - Second Friday of the month, 10am-2pm
  • RSPB - Third Tuesday of the month, 7-10pm
  • Stop smoking group - Tuesday, 12.30-2pm and Wednesday, 6.30-7.30pm
  • Country dancing - (Sessions run by University of the Third Age) - Fortnightly on a Tuesday, 3-4.30pm
  • Anchor support (support for people with learning difficulties in residential settings and supported living schemes) - Third Friday of the month, 10am-3pm

How to find us

By car

Strood library is situated off the A2, via Gun Lane. Turn into Bryant Road. The library is halfway up Bryant Road on the right-hand side. There is a small car park and street parking is usually available.

By train

The nearest train station is Strood Railway Station, 0.7 miles 

By bus

  • From Chatham Waterfront bus station, take 133, 136, 173, 197, Nu-Venture 140/141.
  • From Hoo Marina, take 191.

The nearest bus stops are Matalan, St Nicholas' Church and the former site of the Civic Centre.
