Jobseeking in the library
Medway Libraries have a variety of resources to offer
jobseekers
These include access to vacancy information, books about writing
a curriculum vitae (CV) and interview techniques and details of
support agencies who can offer more in-depth help. Some
libraries host drop-in services for these support agencies.

Vacancies
Libraries stock local and national newspapers, which list
job vacancies. These newspapers are also available online.
You may also want to try the trade journals including
Contract, Construction Times, The Grocer
and the Times Educational Supplement (TES). For more
details please contact a library.
The library maintains a list of websites on their library links
page that list job vacancies; these websites are listed
under Employment and Jobseekers.
Free online job
searches
You can search for job vacancies online using the network
of computers in each library. Medway Council offers free
internet access and use of Microsoft Office 2000 in all libraries.
You can use the computers to fill in application forms, write CVs
and covering letters and email them to a companies or to research a
particular company before your interview.
New to computers?
If you are not confidant using a computer please ask about the
free new
to computers one hour training session being run on a weekly
basis in most libraries.

Library staff will be able to find details of support
agencies that may be able to help you with your job search. The
library hosts drop-in sessions for Reach out 2
work . Details are listed in the Libraries events guide.
Reach out 2 work meets at Gillingham, Luton and Twydall libraries.
- The Gillingham Library drop-in sessions are held
every Monday and Tuesday from 10am - 12.30pm.
- The Luton Library drop-in session is held every Thursday
from 9.00am until 12noon.
- The Twydall Library drop-in session is held every Thursday from
9.30am - 12noon.

Information about training
Library staff can help locate information about local training
and courses at a variety of levels, for all ages and abilities.
Some of this information is available online, in the libraries
online
resources. Libraries also hold details of all the Medway
Adult Learning Service courses and a variety of titles on a
wide range of careers available for loan to registered
borrowers.
Self-employment or starting your own business
If you are considering self-employment, the Library Service
subscribes to an electronic resource called Cobra, which
gives in-depth information on a wide range of trades, jobs,
professions and services. Cobra is updated regularly with
information about how to set up your own business,
including market research, information about trade
fairs and where to get practical
support. Cobra can be accessed at Chatham Community
