Welcome to Medway Libraries' online newspaper and magazines page. Here you will find access to both current and historical newspaper and magazines. You may also find useful links in the history section of library links.

All these resources are available to access from home using your Medway library card or in any Medway library.

The Illustrated London News Historical Archive, 1842-2003

newspaperWith its debut in 1842 the Illustrated London News became the world's first illustrated weekly newspaper. The publication presented a vivid picture of British and world events. Containing over 260,000 full colour pages, fully searchable and browseable, the ILN Historical Archive 1842-2003  provides users with unprecedented access to the entire run of this unique historical record.

 

The John Johnson Collection

Hand putting key in doorThe thousands of items selected from the John Johnson Collection of printed ephemera, offer unique insights into the changing nature of everyday life in Britain in the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries. Categories include 19th-century entertainment, the booktrade, popular prints, crimes, murders and executions, and advertising.

 

JSTOR "Early Journal Content"

JSTOR has made nearly 500,000 articles from more than 200 journals freely available to the public. This "Early Journal Content" includes journal content on JSTOR published prior to 1923 in the United States and prior to 1870 outside the United States. This is a next step in our ongoing efforts to make access more widely available to people around the world, and specifically to those not affiliated with participating institutions.

The Times Digital Online

The Times digital logoThe Times newspaper online, from 1795 to 1985. This resource has more than 7.5 million articles.

 

 

UK Newsstand

Photo of a man reading a newspaper UK Newsstand, a full-text content from more than 130 newspapers and magazines, goes back at least 10 years. This database helps users quickly find the news information they need. Each issue of each newspaper is indexed thoroughly, so researchers have access to not only top news stories but also to the information contained on the various sections of the papers. The indexing covers complete bibliographic information as well as companies, people, products and more.
